Our Analysis & Ratings

If you’re after a budget-friendly but roomy family camping tent, the Quechua ARPENAZ 4.2 Camping Tent might be a good option. For the price, it’s a great first-family tent or if you’re after something cheap for a festival. It has its negatives, though, like the fact that the groundsheet is not sewn in.

Comfort - The ARPENAZ 4.2 is fairly small. The sleeping areas can take a double mattress, which for some people might be a bit too snug for two large adults (we found it to be one of the tighter tents in our testing). The sloping walls in the sleeping areas also encroach on your space. The living area is welcome, but practically can’t really be used for anything except to store bags and say hi in the morning. The rooms also don’t block out the sun, meaning you’re up as the sun comes through — there’s a ‘Fresh & Black’ version of the tent that adds this.

Construction - The Quechua ARPENAZ 4.2 Camping Tent has a tunnel design with a bedroom at each end and living space in the middle. The bathtub-style groundsheet in the living area is not sewn in, meaning water and bugs can get in through the gaps (however, the groundsheet is integrated in the sleeping areas). It does help with ventilation, though. There are two large doors on either side of the living room, making it a nice space to relax in warmer weather. The fiberglass poles, while not the best quality, help keep the weight down.

Features - It has a sun awning attached to the front and the sleeping pods are kept secure with dividers. It’s easy to pitch with two people with its color-coded poles, but you will definitely need help holding and keeping the poles still while pegging down the other side when pitching as the tent isn’t freestanding.

Size/Weight - It can be a bit difficult to roll the tent back up and fit it back into the bag, but otherwise offers a decent size-to-weight ratio.

Versatility - The tent can withstand rain with no leaks, but we found it didn’t perform well in strong winds. We’d recommend it be used in generally pleasant conditions.

Overall - The Quechua ARPENAZ 4.2 Camping Tent is a decent, lower-cost option, but you pay for it with less comfort and a more involved setup than other options.
