Our Analysis & Ratings

The Oztent RV5 is a very well-constructed classic touring tent that will hold up to the elements and stand the test of time. The extremely simple push-and-lock setup is a great feature. The packed size of 2m means you need a roof rack or trailer to get it around, which we don't like, and we prefer a symmetrical shape, but overall, this is a solid, well-built tent that’s nearly unbeatable on setup time.

Comfort - A mid-size tent with a single large room. The aluminum frame on the floor and slope on one side give it an unsymmetrical feel, but it is a big room. It can feel a bit dark inside.

Construction - This is where Oztent shines. Canvas, strong-grade aluminum frame and good-quality PVC flooring. It will stand up to the elements and last you a long time.

Features - It’s very easy to set up, with lots of ventilation and window configuration options. There’s a power access point and two small storage pockets, which provide all the basic features we’d need to be comfortable.

Size/Weight - Sleeping size of 73sqft, weight of 53.7lbs and head height of 75in. There was enough room to comfortably fit a queen and a single air bed, so no problem with the sleeping space — as we’ve said, our big knock on this is the packed size is 2m long, so most people will need a roof rack or trailer to transport it.

Versatility - It’s an easy to set up touring tent if you are moving around a lot. For basic camping, it does the job but we prefer a symmetrical space.

Overall - The Oztent RV5 is great for touring but a roof rack is required.
