Our Analysis & Ratings

The Sea Eagle 385 feels like a significant step up from previous models, such as the 330 or 370. It’s clearly built for paddlers who want something faster, sleeker and more refined without giving up the convenience of portability. Between its impressive stability, great NeedleKnife keel and strong overall build, this Sea Eagle kayak really does live up to its ‘FastTrack’ name. That said, there are a few things worth knowing before you commit, particularly around setup, carrying and long-term durability in extreme conditions.

Performance - We found that the Sea Eagle FastTrack feels smooth and fast for an inflatable. Its tapered bow and drop-stitch V-hull make a noticeable difference in how it cuts through the water, and you can really feel it glide with less drag than you’d expect. The NeedleKnife keel and skeg combination keep it tracking straight, even in light wind or boat wake. Stability-wise, it strikes a nice balance. You can comfortably paddle in choppy bays or river currents without feeling wobbly, but it’s not the kind of kayak you’d stand up in like a fishing SUP (try the 385fta if that’s what you’re after). Solo paddling is surprisingly easy, which is great for anyone who plans to switch between solo and tandem outings.

Construction - The Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack is built from heavy-duty 1000 denier reinforced fabric, which is extremely tough and abrasion-resistant. You don’t need to baby it when launching off gravel or brushing against rocks. The multiple air chambers and electronically welded seams add a reassuring layer of safety. The high-pressure drop-stitch floor feels solid underfoot and adds rigidity to the whole hull, enough that you could briefly stand if you needed to. Do keep in mind that if you’re paddling in intense heat for long periods, the seams can expand and issues may occur. Otherwise, the build quality and materials feel robust and built to last and Sea Eagle’s strong warranty support gives added peace of mind.

Setup/Pack Down - Inflating the Sea Eagle 385 takes roughly seven minutes with the included pump and the process is fairly straightforward once you’ve done it a few times. The chambers inflate individually, which adds a bit of time but enhances safety. Installing the seats and skeg is quick, and the whole setup feels intuitive. Packing it away, on the other hand, can be a bit of a wrestling match at first. Folding it neatly enough to fit into the bag takes some practice, especially when you’re tired after a long day. It’s not difficult, just fiddly until you get the hang of it.

Portability - At about 31 pounds, the Sea Eagle 385ft is easy to transport compared to rigid kayaks, but the carry bag could be better. It’s more of a duffel-style bag without backpack straps or wheels, which makes carrying it awkward over longer distances. Once deflated, it fits neatly into a car trunk, RV, or even a closet, which is one of its biggest advantages over hard-shell kayaks. For road trips or motorhome travel, it’s a great balance between size, weight and performance.

Comfort - The seating setup on the Sea Eagle FastTrack is simple but does the job. The tall-back seats provide solid lumbar support whether you’re paddling upright or relaxing on calmer water. There’s plenty of legroom and you can sit cross-legged comfortably, which makes longer trips much easier. The kayak doesn’t come with rigid footrests, but the daisy chain straps along the interior let you improvise your own foot support if you prefer a firmer paddling position. Overall comfort is excellent for both solo and tandem configurations, with plenty of space for gear or even a small dog.

Overall - The Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack is a strong all-rounder that blends performance, stability and portability really well. It’s quick on the water, solidly built and versatile enough for lakes, bays and mild rivers. In short, if you’re looking for a high-quality sea eagle kayak that’s lightweight, fast and durable, the Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack is one of the best inflatable kayaks in its class.
