Our Analysis & Ratings
The Edge Pro 2 is our top-rated 2-person inflatable kayak for its outstanding on-water performance, excellent legroom while maintaining a manageable length, and groundbreaking construction.
Performance (speed, tracking, maneuverability, stability, load handling): 10/10
Speed: Higher speed translates to better paddling efficiency. In our 330-foot speed test, the Edge Pro 2 proved very fast, thanks to its smooth PVC surface, pointed bow shape, and hydrodynamic hull design.
Tracking: In our straight-line tracking test, it performed great. Much of this is due to the skeg, which very effectively keeps it on course. We also found the hull shape guided it reasonably straight when we tested it without the skeg.
Maneuverability: The Edge Pro 2's curved diamond-shaped hull design does a solid job of balancing the need to track straight and turn easily. It was surprisingly easy to turn for a kayak with this narrower, longer profile, designs that are generally great at tracking but at the expense of maneuverability.
Stability: The hull's rigid full drop-stitch construction, combined with its curved base, gives this kayak exceptional stability. When we deliberately rocked it, the kayak responded to our movements just like a curved hard-shell kayak, rather than threatening to tip the way many full drop-stitch inflatables will.
Load Handling: When we tested the kayak at both 50% and 80% of its capacity, it actually performed a little better. With the Edge Pro 2 fully loaded, more of the hull's lateral curve sat in the water, improving handling. This makes it an excellent choice for larger paddlers or anyone wanting to haul extra gear.
The Edge Pro 2 was the best-performing 2-person kayak we tested.
Construction (materials, seams, valve quality, durability, and fittings): 10/10
The Edge Pro 2 is a full drop-stitch kayak featuring Razor Kayaks' Tech-Stitch material on the exterior for added durability, which held up great in our abrasion testing.
The Edge Pro 2's drop-stitch uses a 2-inch thickness instead of the more typical 3–4 inches. With the hull's angles, this design delivers the necessary rigidity while the thinner drop-stitch keeps the kayak relatively lighter and provides more cockpit space, something that's especially noticeable in a 2-person kayak. Both the hull shape and thinner drop-stitch are things we haven't seen in inflatable kayaks before, and they offer major improvements over common issues with 2-person designs.
Seams and valves were cleanly assembled, clearly high quality, and held pressure throughout our three-day inflation tests. D-rings and other hardware were top-notch.
Setup/Pack Down (inflation time, valves, folding, and drying): 9/10
The Edge Pro 2 has a quick-drying fully PVC exterior and three matching valves, making it quick and simple to set up and pack down. It also features a solid foam seat that simply clips in rather than needing to be inflated, and a footrest that's equally easy to attach and adjust by re-clipping.
As with the Edge Pro 1, you do have to reach slightly under the hull to attach the pump to the valves, but it's a minor inconvenience that's far outweighed by the benefits of the enclosed hull shape.
The included bag fully unzips and has plenty of room to easily pack the kayak and accessories back in.
Portability (weight, packed size, ease of carrying): 7/10
At 44 lbs, it's not the lightest inflatable kayak out there, but still solid for a full drop-stitch 2-person. The enclosed sit-in hull design naturally uses more material, so some added weight is expected. That said, the thinner drop-stitch does help trim some of it.
The bag is a comfortable backpack-style design that also includes wheels so you can roll it along the ground. The packed size was very manageable.
Overall, we feel the kayak's on-water performance more than makes up for the slightly heavier weight, though we had to factor that in for our rating of 7 here.
Comfort (seat support, legroom, fatigue over distance): 10/10
Razor Kayaks updated its seat across its latest models with a thicker foam bottom, delivering solid comfort on longer paddles. The footrest was also well-positioned for paddling ergonomics, and there's a ton of legroom.
Importantly, the easy adjustability of the seats and the absence of any internal barrier inside the cockpit gives two paddlers plenty of flexibility to configure the space to suit them. Our two tallest testers were able to paddle this kayak without getting in each other's way.
The optional spray skirt also lets you take the kayak out comfortably in all conditions. We found it effective at keeping us dry when we tested it in choppy coastal conditions. It would definitely open the door to cold winter paddling days as well.
Value for Money:
Priced at $1,499.00, this kayak is firmly in the premium category. It's an exceptionally well-performing kayak with excellent build quality and thoughtful design, and as the best 2-person kayak we've tested, we rated its value as solid.
Best for:
Taller paddlers or those looking for comfort and a spacious cockpit
Paddlers looking for high performance across all areas
A wide range of water and weather conditions (rivers, lakes, coastal)
Long day trips or multi-day expeditions
All body types, including larger and heavier paddlers
Serious paddlers looking to invest in the best-quality option
Overall:
The Edge Pro 2 is an extremely comfortable, durable, and high-performing kayak. It was a joy to spend hours in and rated at the top across all of our categories.
