Our Analysis & Ratings

Replacing the REI Kingdom tent, this glamping tent is truly huge. The size alone makes it not for everyone, but for those who will be camping for a long time or need room for plenty of gear or young kids, it’s a great base camp tent that handles various weather. You could even use it as a car shelter while it home!

Comfort - The REI Co-op Wonderland X is incredibly spacious, housing four people or more without anyone needing to bend their heads. There’s plenty of room to keep everyone out of the weather. It sleeps four adults comfortably.

Construction - This tunnel of a tent requires you to set up a freestanding rainfly and then hang a smaller mesh tent inside. You then assemble the poles, set up the rainfly, stake it all out and then hang the interior of the rainfly. The canopy and rainfly are made of 75-denier coated polyester, while the floor is 150-denier, and the poles are DAC MX aluminum. Be careful with the zippers, as the guy lines can put a lot of pressure on them if staked too tightly. For the price, we wish it came with a footprint.

Features - The awning on this tent is huge, providing room for multiple camping chairs and even a table. There are four doors, allowing for easy access inside and out, and there are plenty of ventilation points. Since it’s so large, you can even back your car into the front if need be!

Size/Weight - Some might call the REI Co-op Wonderland X too large (it could fit a car inside!). The entire thing needs 156.7x109.8in of space, with a 100x100in interior. After getting the hang of it — the directions aren’t great — it takes about 15 minutes to set up with a couple of others. With just one person, it can be tricky.

Versatility - The REI Co-op Wonderland X copes well in the wind, although the sound of it ruffling against the tent can be quite loud and alarming. It’s listed as a 3-season tent, which is great for base camping, but you just need to make sure you have enough room to set it all up, which, depending on where you are, might be tricky. The tent is perfect for bad weather where you need to cook and stay out of the rain with the whole family.

Overall - If it’s space and comfort you’re after, the REI Co-op Wonderland X ticks the boxes, if you can handle the price.
