Our Analysis & Ratings
If you’re after room, the Guide Gear Deluxe is where you should start looking. There are other sizes, but this option means you can use it to store your gear, cook or camp with the whole family.
Comfort - The Guide Gear Deluxe can fit an inflatable mattress on one side with room for your belongings on the other, but it can fit eight adults comfortably. It’s great, as you can step into the tent rather than crawling in. At 90.55in high, the tent is tall!
Construction - Has a steel center pole to keep it up. The provided tent pegs work fine in the dirt but in rocky terrains, you will need better ones. It’s not the most heavy-duty tent as the 190-denier polyester is a bit lightweight and despite having factory-sealed seams, some water does come in. Some areas are also not stitched very well and the stake loops can easily rip off, but a sew can fix this if you can be bothered. We’d also like if it came with more detailed instructions.
Features - It has an igloo shape, where there is a separate section for the door (the vestibule), giving you a place to store your shoes. There’s no floor here but it’s great to store your items or place a chair. It has four weatherproofed windows, four zippered windows and a roof vent to help ventilate the tent. The front door has mesh for bug protection.
Size/Weight - One person can set it up fairly easily by inserting the stakes around the edge and then inserting the pole. It can be difficult to repack into the carry case. It’s also very bulky and heavy at 30lb, but then again, it’s large.
Versatility - Can withstand windy conditions with all the fly lines and works well in sandy and snowy conditions, although the material may be prone to leaks when raining. It might be best to purchase a rainfly with this tent.
Overall - A fairly priced tent for such a large family offering.
