Our Analysis & Ratings
The Grand Canyon Black Falls 8 is a simple shelter that’s a good option for festivalgoers. Coming in beige and green, it’s incredibly spacious, meaning you can sleep and live inside comfortably. At its size, it’s not even the heaviest on the list, but this is partly due to its materials. A major letdown is that the groundsheet isn’t sewn or zipped in.
Comfort - The Grand Canyon Black Falls 8 sleeps 5 to 8 and, like all family teepee tents, you can stand up in the center. It has good ventilation and a large space for you to move around inside.
Construction - The flysheet is made of breathable polyester, while the groundsheet is of polyethylene. The pole is fiberglass, while the pegs are steel. The door opens all the way to the ground and the windows are about head height when sitting. A negative is that the groundsheet isn’t sewn in, but this might suit some people, especially if you’re just using it as a beach shelter.
Features - It has a ventilation hood at the top to allow air to pass through and keep condensation to a minimum, and it also has a mosquito net to keep the insects out. A nice feature is that the guy lines are a fluoro color so you can spot them easier in the dark.
Size/Weight - At 19.8lb, it’s quite lightweight for its large space, although it packs up slightly larger than many on our list at 28.74x8.66in. It fits easily enough in a car or on a canoe, though.
Versatility - The Grand Canyon Black Falls 8, sadly, doesn’t have the best protection against the elements, despite being listed as a waterproof, 4-season tent. While it has a 4000mm waterproofing rating on the bottom, the flysheet is only 3000mm. When pegged down, though, it will do well in the wind due to its curved shape, but this is the same on all teepee tents.
Overall - Quite expensive for the quality, the Grand Canyon Black Falls 8 is a simple teepee shelter that can comfortably house a family. It’s more suited for warmer weather.
