Our Analysis & Ratings
The Big Agnes Big Six combines a backpacking chair with camping chair; it’s tall, wide, compact and comfortable. This all comes at the expense of weight and price. It does also take a bit more time to set up than regular camping chairs. It comes in a variety of colors to choose from, allowing you to be stylish while camping.
Comfort - With a wide seat and high back, the Big Agnes Big Six is very comfortable for all people to sit on, especially since it’s also high off the ground — 20 inches in fact. Its backrest also has a headrest, but then again, it doesn’t have armrests. For some, the sides may be too high, which may make their arms feel cramped and trapped.
Construction - The Big Agnes Big Six is made of Robic™ nylon with polyester ripstop and a waterproof UTS coating. If you get a patterned seat, it’s made form Polyester Oxford with a polyurethane coating. The frame is made from an aircraft aluminum pole system.
Features - It has a color-coded shock-cord design to help when building the chair and then packing it down, and it has a self-equalizing center pole that helps to level the chair on uneven ground, which is great for rough terrains.
Size/Weight - The Big Six is heavy and bulky for a backpacking chair at 3lb 3oz, but not so much for a camping chair, although it comes in a carry bag to help with transportation. It opens to 24x26x30in and packs down to 3.5x4.5x21in.
Versatility - As Big Agnes has tried to maintain some of the compactness of a backpacking chair, the Big Six does take a bit more time to set up. It may not be the best backpacking chair, but it’s still an option if you’re after comfort, especially for taller people, which many backpacking chairs neglect. It’s great on all terrains and is waterproof.
Overall - While expensive, the Big Agnes Big Six is for larger campers and backpackers looking for a comfortable chair.
