Our Analysis & Ratings

The North Face Assault 2 is packed with good features, even with its light weight. It has a spacious removable vestibule that doubles as an extra room for extra storage. With a single-wall tent, this works well for alpine climbing or activities with warmer conditions since it isn't waterproof like the hardshell ones.

Comfort - The added vestibule made more room for comfort and storage space, so we could move around without feeling cramped. It has a good headroom too, and an added quarter-size window for more ventilation when needed.

Construction - It is a single-wall model made to be water-resistant for fairly cold weather. A third pole that was attached across the tent made the headroom more spacious.

Features - The removable hooped vestibule still remains one of its best features, as it adds a significant amount of room and liveability.

Size/Weight - The TNF Assault 2 falls under the average single-wall tent weight, but a good one with its roomy interior.

Versatility - Among the single-wall models, this tent has a good versatility score for its venting options on all four sides. We find it does ventilate even for rainy conditions without getting water in.

Overall - This is a fairly good tent for dry seasons. You can take it on longer trips with its light weight. It's just not an all-around tent; definitely not for the rainy conditions.
