Our Analysis & Ratings

The Marmot Tungsten 2P is a comfortable, multipurpose tent, offering comfort for sleepers and stargazers. While the fly could be better and it's not as weather-resistant or light as it could be, it offers great overall value for those wanting to get away for some outdoor adventures.

Comfort - The poles of the tent are pre-bent, allowing you to get the right size from the tent each time, getting enough room to sit up and spread out. If the fly isn’t taut, it can whip around noisily in the wind, which is not the best for a good night’s rest. The fly material can sag when wet if it’s not taut, too, which can make the inner mesh wet and cold. The large vent at the top helps with ventilation, though, as do the different openings in the vestibules.

Construction - The Tungsten offers durability with its polyester rainfly and nylon floor, and even though the clips and hooks are plastic, they do the job. The stakes are plastic, though, which can bend quickly. The tent’s pole structure gives it its volume, and it has two large doors, allowing comfortable entry and exit for larger individuals. As mentioned, the fly can be difficult to set up and get taut with its asymmetrical fly.

Features - The Marmot Tungsten comes with two small pockets on each side, which is fine if you don’t require a lot of storage, but either larger ones or more would be preferred. It has two vestibules, each of a different size, as well as a lampshade pocket to help diffuse light.

Size/Weight - It’s not the most ultralight of tents on the market, but around average for its size at 4lbs 15.7oz. It would work quite well on weekend adventures or if paddling out on the water and you’re not too fussed about weight. The spacious interior offers plenty of headroom when sleeping or talking while keeping out of the weather.

Versatility - The Marmot Tungsten is a 3-season tent, but depending on how well you get the fly set up, it might not be the best in rainy conditions. It’s easy to pitch with two standard poles intersecting at a hub, allowing it to set up in a matter of minutes.

Overall - As an inexpensive and roomy tent, the Marmot Tungsten 2P is a good option for weekend trekking in decent conditions as well as car camping adventures.
