Our Analysis & Ratings

As a spacious family tipi tent, the Ozark Trail 7 is a great mix of affordability, size and simplicity. It does have its drawbacks, though, in its durability and weather-proofing departments. It makes for a great shelter for nice weather camping or festivals with friends, it just may not last you years.

Comfort - Now, the description of this says it sleeps seven, but by our configurations, that’s not going to happen. It can fit two queen-size air mattresses, which means it’s still a good size and is a spacious, family tent. It doesn’t have a central pole, though, which increases the inner space though.

Construction - It’s not the most durable of teepee tents and won’t survive rough conditions or handling. It’s also not seam-sealed, meaning it’s not a tent you want to be using during heavy, wet weather. The floor is fully integrated though, which is nice to see. A good aspect of the tent, though, is that it has no central pole, which frees up the interior space — it has a 2 pole design.

Features - There’s lots of opportunity for ventilation in the Ozark Trail 7, meaning on nice days, you can easily air the tent out and keep it cool. It does this through the rear awning window and four fully zippered and mesh windows. The full door also has a bug, which is nice to see. Inside, you will also find storage compartments sewn into the walls, although the placement of these is questionable.

Size/Weight - At 15lb, it’s a pretty bulky tent, so it’s not suitable for hiking. You will need to drive it to your campground, but if that’s all you’re after, then it’s a decent tent. It’s a pretty decent size, too, so you can fit two adults and few kids, or you could use it for a festival to sleep, store items or change in.

Versatility - Due to its size, affordability and ventilation benefits, it’s a good option for car camping or for the kids to camp out in the backyard. It’s easy to set up, although you need a lot of stakes to keep it secure.

Overall - If you’re starting out in the camping scene, the Ozark Trail 7 is a decent young family tent.
