Our Analysis & Ratings
This bright-coloured sleeping bag is an off-season bag that provides plenty of warmth in winter conditions. It comes in three sizes to suit your height and comes in a bright yellow (which might not suit everyone). It’s very comfortable, though, and is well suited for damp and wet environments.
Comfort - The Therm-a-Rest Parsec 0 has a temperature rating of 0oF and the soft lining makes sleeping in the bag incredibly comfortable. For larger individuals, the mummy shape might be uncomfortable if you like to spread your legs around. The down is placed in areas around the bag that help keep you warm and there’s also a lot of down where your feet are, which many bags often miss.
Construction - The bag is made from 20D 100% recycled nylon, with the lining also nylon, while the down is 800-fill-power Nikwax Hydrophobic Down. This material allows it to absorb less water and dry faster than untreated down, which is handy for damp mornings. The zipper is on the left and runs the entire length of the sleeping bag and the bag is also in a mummy shape, which not everyone will love.
Features - The full-length YKK® zippers are non-snag, meaning you won’t have the nuisance of getting the lining or interior snagged in while opening or closing. For further warmth, the hood is cinchable, the zipper has a draft tube and there is a heat-trapping draft collar. Inside, there’s also a pocket to stash your small items, which is handy so you don’t lose your phone while sleeping. The bottom has straps for you to connect to your sleeping bag to prevent you from moving around, although, for some reason, these are quite small and don’t stretch over the Therm-a-Rest wide mattress pads (25in-wide).
Size/Weight - The nylon construction makes this bag both durable and light and it all compresses down into a small size — it won’t pack down as small as warmer bags as it has more down.
Versatility - It’s definitely a bag you would take during colder weather, as you would get too hot taking it out on warmer weather trips. It might not be a fully winter sleeping bag though, as for those extremely cold nights, you might need something warmer. It might be slightly too heavy if you’re undergoing long treks, but at just over 1kg, it’s a decent weight for most uses.
Overall - The Therm-a-Rest Parsec 0 is great for fringe-season camping trips.
