Our Analysis & Ratings

Designed with anglers in mind, the Sea Eagle 385 FastTrack Angler combines the portability of an inflatable with the durability and stability you need for long fishing sessions. Overall, we found that it strikes a good balance between comfort, features and fishing-specific functionality.

Performance (speed, tracking, maneuverability, stability, load handling): 7/10

Speed: It's not built for speed, but that’s not what it’s made for, and while it's not as quick as a hard-shell, it glides well enough for covering distance between fishing spots.

Tracking: The inflatable bow keel and removable fin improve tracking noticeably compared to other inflatable kayaks we've tried.

Maneuverability: Standing to fish is possible but less stable than in some hard-shell fishing kayaks, mainly due to the narrower standing space.

Stability: At 36 inches wide and 12'6" long, it feels steady on the water, which is especially important for anglers who don't want to worry about tipping while reeling in a catch.

The kayak felt safe and predictable throughout our time with it, which is exactly what you want when fishing.

Construction (materials, seams, valve quality, durability, and fittings): 8/10

The Sea Eagle 385fta FastTrack Angler is built with tougher materials than the standard version, with the hull 29% thicker for added durability. The EVA foam deck pad is a nice touch, protecting the surface from hooks and adding comfort when standing.

The drop-stitch floor creates a rigid base that feels closer to a hard-shell, while the 18 D-rings, multiple handles and attachment points make it easy to rig the kayak to your own setup. Small but useful features like lure holders, tool hooks and a built-in fish ruler show that this is designed with anglers in mind.

Setup/Pack Down (inflation time, valves, folding, and drying): 8/10

Like other Sea Eagle kayaks, the 385fta inflates quickly and is straightforward to assemble. The drop-stitch floor and side chambers take a few minutes to pump up, and once in place, everything feels secure.

Packing down is fairly easy, too, thanks to the carry bag having extra room, meaning you don't need to fold it perfectly to fit it back in. It's much bulkier than some lighter inflatables, at 45lbs, but far easier than dealing with a traditional fishing kayak that requires roof racks or even a trailer.

Portability (weight, packed size, ease of carrying): 8/10

At 45lbs, the Sea Eagle FastTrack 385 is heavier than most inflatables but much lighter than most fishing kayaks, which often weigh well over 100lbs. Carrying it short distances is manageable, though not something we'd want to do for long stretches.

The bag makes transporting easier, but it isn't the most comfortable when carrying it long distances. Overall, the kayak hits a sweet spot for anglers wanting something portable without sacrificing strength and features.

Comfort (seat support, legroom, fatigue over distance): 8/10

We tested the deluxe inflatable seat, which was cushioned, raised and kept us dry and supported during long sessions of fishing. Comfort levels were impressive, even after spending five to six hours on the water. The EVA padding on the floor was also noticeable when shifting around or standing briefly.

The lack of foot pegs was the one downside we found, making longer paddling sessions more difficult, which is annoying if you've paddled out a distance and then have to make the trek back. That said, the kayak is clearly designed for fishing first and paddling second, so this isn't a deal-breaker.

Value for money:

The Sea Eagle 385fta FastTrack Angler offers fishing lovers a stable and portable platform with smart fishing-specific features at a fair price point.

Best for:

  • Anglers wanting a stable, tip-resistant fishing platform

  • Long fishing sessions of five to six hours or more

  • Standing to fish, within the limits of a narrower deck

  • Those wanting a lighter alternative to a traditional fishing kayak

Overall:

The Sea Eagle 385fta FastTrack Angler is a versatile, durable and well-thought-out inflatable fishing kayak. While it won't replace a high-speed touring kayak, it offers anglers a stable and portable platform with dedicated fishing-specific features at a decent price. For those who want a Sea Eagle kayak that balances portability with serious fishing functionality, the Sea Eagle 385fta FastTrack Angler is a strong choice that stands out in its category.
